Proctor & Gamble is seeking YOUR well-developed ideas through their Connect and Develop program.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Jeff LeRoy, External Relations Manager for The Procter & Gamble Company about their Connect and Develop program which includes a needs list with new types of innovations that the company is seeking.
He wanted me to know that they encourage mom inventors to submit their well-developed product ideas or concepts.
“The more your idea has been developed, the better.”
They like products that have already been tested on the market and have done well.
For example, if you have a great recipe for a baked fruit or vegetable snack and you’ve trademarked the recipe, you’ve tested it around your neighborhood, maybe got some local stores to carry it, and received feedback from your customers that they absolutely love your snack….. submit it to Proctor and Gamble! They may decide to work with you on developing the snack to be sold through their distribution channels. If you can show to them that there are people who are interested in the snack and excited about buying it, Proctor and Gamble may want to partner with you on your product.
Think about that, a 15 BILLION dollar company partnering with you! Wow!
But Jeff cautions, your product or concept has to be really innovative. If your new product idea is to change the color of an existing product, don’t waste your time. They get thousands of submissions a year and a lot of them are really not innovative product ideas at all.
Your product idea must have some sort of legal protection, like a patent or trademark, before Proctor and Gamble will talk to you about it. For information on getting a patent or trademark visit the U.S. Patent and Trademark website.
Jeff also said Proctor and Gamble encourages mom inventors to contact them first if they are looking for a company to bring their ideas to. If your first idea doesn’t work out, they can possibly refer you to a company where your product might be a better fit. And they encourage you to contact them the next time you have a new product idea or concept.
And for those of you who are a little overambitious…..Jeff told me many people think that by mailing their new idea information to 15 different people at the Proctor and Gamble company gives them a better chance at getting noticed. But all the product submissions get filtered down to the review department, so they’ve just wasted time and money by sending it to 15 different people. Jeff wanted to stress that using their website to submit your idea will get it to the right people, this program is legitimate and they do give feedback on your product submissions.
So why not give it a shot?
It’s free to submit an idea and if your product idea is really good you might just strike a deal with them!
